Dayton Carr is the founder and has been actively involved on a full-time
basis in the formation, investment selection, and management of VCFA. Mr.
Carr entered the venture capital industry in 1968 when he formed Carr
Management Company, a private venture capital limited partnership, funded
primarily by a leading American industrialist. As general partner in one of
the earliest venture capital
firms in the country, Mr. Carr was directly responsible for all aspects of
portfolio management and invested with some of the best known names in
venture capital. Approximately ten years after forming Carr Management
Company, he purchased the limited partner’s interest in what VCFA believes to
be the first secondary purchase of a venture capital interest.
Having recognized the growth in the venture capital industry and the
liquidity needs of many investors, Mr. Carr formed VCFA Group in New York
in 1982 to purchase secondary interests in Venture Capital. He subsequently led the formation of
eight funds and the firm's global expansion. Mr. Carr is often cited as the
founder of the secondary private equity industry.
Mr. Carr has served on the advisory boards of several venture capital
partnerships and private companies and serves on the boards of directors of
The Alden Group and Kolob Development Corp., Inc. He is also active in a
number of charitable organizations. Mr. Carr graduated from
Brown University and received an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. |
